One of the relatively easy things you can do to improve your search engine optimization results is to tie your Google+ profile to your blog. This is known as your Google Authorship.
Google likes to know about the people who write content. When Google decides what content to show as a result of a keyword search it will pick the content that is associated with a Google+ account everything else being equal.
The first thing you must do is create a Google+ account if you do not have one already. You can do this by going to plus.google.com and click the red create an account button at the top right.
Now that you have your Google+ account you need to let Google know that you are the author of your blog posts. In a WordPress blog you need to add the following to your header.php file. This file can be found in your Appearance menu within the Editor sub-menu. See image to the right.
<link rel=”author” href=”https://plus.google.com/###########/posts” />
The ##s represent your unique Google+ account id. You can find this by going to your Google+ account, clicking on the Profile, and checking what shows in the URL. You just need the number from this string.
If you have any questions or need to know how to set up your id in a non-Wordpress environment please send me a note via my contact page.
